Citizens of Norway, EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland
Short trips to Germany (up to 90 days)
It is not required for Norwegian citizens to get a visa for a business or tourist trip to Germany. The same applies to citizens of EU member states as well as to citizens of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. However, all these citizens must at all times during their stay in Germany be able to identify themselves with a valid passport or a national ID-card.
Please note that for Norwegian citizens only the passport and the national ID card with travel rights (ID-kort med reiserett) are valid travel documents for trips to Germany. The ID card without travel rights (ID-kort uten reiserett), Norwegian driving licenses, bank cards, health insurance cards or other types of IDs are not valid for entry to Germany.
Stays in Germany longer than 90 days
If citizens of Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland and citizens of EU member states move to Germany to work, study or live there for more than 90 days they are required to register with the registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt/Bürgerbüro) in the town/city they move to. It is also necessary to have health insurance coverage and sufficient funds.
