Tourist trips for up to 90 days

17.01.2024 - Artikel

Here you will find information for third-country citizens residing in Norway who wish to visit Germany as tourists.

As a third-country national (= non EU/EFTA country) who is in possession of a Norwegian residence permit you are allowed to travel to Germany for up to 90 days per 180-day period, as long as the duration of the stay does not exceed the residence permit’s validity period. This rule also applies to the holders of a national visa (category „D“ visa). Further questions regarding travel privileges with your residence permit have to be addressed to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI).

If your residence permit for Norway has expired, you have to apply for an extension with the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration („UDI“). Until a decision regarding the extension has been made, you are unfortunately not allowed to travel to Germany.

Kindly take note that you need to bring your residence card with you when travelling to Germany as well as your valid passport.

However, if you aim to work in Germany and / or stay longer than 90 days, you need to apply for a visa in advance at the German Embassy.
